I've been working around an irritating problem that I don't understand, but it seems to involve an interaction between Windows USB drivers and the 2206BMSO hardware.
On my main desktop computer (Windows 10, 64-bit, Dell Precision 3620), the PicoScope 2206B pod usually does not power up when I plug it into the USB. The red LED stays off and Windows does not recognize a new USB device. Playing around with Windows device manager and forcing a scan for new devices does nothing. I've also had no luck with trying different USB ports on front and back panel, or on a powered USB hub.
However, when I plug the pod into my laptop (also Windows 10 64-bit), it always powers up immediately and the red LED comes on. If I then unplug from the laptop and plug into the desktop PC, the red LED comes on and the USB device is recognized and powered on. I can carry on using it normally.
This doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Guesswork: the USB drivers in the desktop are managing power in some odd way, and do not provide USB power to the 2206B, but when powered up via the laptop some internal capacitors in the 2206B get charged up, and this stored power keeps the pod alive while I move the plug over to the desktop.
Any insights? Has anyone else seen this phenomenon?
Edit: I found this post that sounds like the same problem:
