3204A - hardware defect - chip unknown

Post by wo_gue@hotmail.com » Mon Mar 18, 2019 5:55 pm

Hi,
my scope is not responding any more. I found that 5V input coming from USB has 38 Ohms to GND and 3.3V is not present (only around 1,65V). I assume the chip, where the incoming 5V leads to is defective, but I can not identify what chip this is.
Seems to be a TI POWER-DISTRIBUTIONSWITCH "TPSxxx". It is the X2QFN 12 pin package chip near the USB port. Says "2561" "TI 211".
Unfortunately I can't upload an image.
Thanks for any help.

No support from helpdesk. They only recommended in-house repair.

Hi

Yes, unfortunately, we don't encourage customers to attempt their own repairs for a whole list of reasons, including the implications of errors/inexperience in the carrying out the repairs, the repairs having been carried out
but not fixing the problem, the implications of not being able to perform testing to our standards once the repairs have been carried out, the implications of hard to source components, and the invalidation of the warranty, to name but a few.

You can ask for a quote for a repair, if your issue is price, and we aim to turn the repair around within 5 days of receipt (usually earlier) if your issue is time.

Regards,

Hi,

I don't understand, why it should not be up to me, how I handle an item which belongs to me. I could not make you responsible for me not being able to fix my scope, as you would have.
If you don't want to support this, I will have to accept that, but I don't believe it is the right way to go. Similar to Apple.
I like your scopes, but I guess, with this experience I will not purchase anymore Picoscope products. Sorry.

Anyway, I meanwhile fixed my scope, for the cost of a spare part of 3,09€.

Regards,
Wolfgang
