It would depend upon the exact message, where you are plugging the device into, if you are using a hub, the type of cable you are using to connect the 3423 to the PC, what O/S you are using etc ........ That suggests that the voltages are borderline. You may be able to adjust the advanced power settings for your laptop, disabling unused devices, to improve the stability. However there will always be the risk of it stopping at any time.

Periodically ask the scope for some simple information, for example device serial number, and if you don't get any data back just close the unit before opening it again. I can't be more specific without more details of your software so can't guarantee that this would work.

If you open a Scope window, alongside the XY mode window, you can use this to set the trigger conditions.

The software has moved on from 6.5.78, and is now at 6.6.12(RC) which provides many additional features as well as fixes for issues that people have reported.
